San Francisco designer (and dear friend of Affinity), Marissa Goodman Thieriot spent ten years working as a sweater and knitwear designer for companies including Esprit, Gap, and Levi’s where she developed her craft in the architecture of stitches, pattern, and texture. In 2013 Marissa started her own brand Tempest + Bentley, a luxury sweater collection that combines traditional and modern design, features natural, American-sourced yarns, and follows sustainable production principles.
This week, we sat down with Marissa to get a bunch of sweater dress tips and learn about her favorite sweater dress picks for this fall.
Everyone should have a knitted dress because it’s so easy to slip on a sweater dress with a great pair of boots in the cold months. It’s cozy and chic.
To style a sweater dress you don’t need much, but a bold metal statement necklace or a cuff or two can really finish the look with a great pair of boots. For a more casual look, canvas sneakers and a light weight chambray or canvas jacket feel fresh.
When wearing a sweater dress never limit yourself to how you can style it. It’s a versatile piece that can be layered, dressed up or down, worn simply or accessorized.
There are sweater dresses for almost every occasion. Light weight cotton styles are great for warm weather. Wool and cashmere styles will keep you cozy. Knit dresses are a great day to evening piece that can quickly be dressed up with some bold jewelry and a boot with a heel.
When buying a sweater dress you should always consider picking a style and length that you feel comfortable in and makes sense for the season.
