Ace the Summer Suit Look with Styling Tips From 4 Fashion Editors

Nowadays, suits and structured separates like blazers and trousers go way beyond the office. The options are seemingly endless — just take a look at our Summer Suit Shop, which features everything from linen culottes and floral cropped trousers to high-low blazers and longline vests. No matter what your taste may be, there really is something for everyone.

To get some styling inspiration, we asked four of our favorite fashion editors which suit they'll be rocking this summer and how they plan to style it. Their tips on how to pull off a suit with sandals, nailing the right proportions, and finding the perfect necklace to pair with a blazer, below!

STEPHANIE NGUYEN, FASHION EDITOR - POPSUGAR

“I'll take any opportunity to go matchy-matchy with my ensemble, and summer is no different. The great thing about wearing a suit styled for the warmer months is that you can play around with proportions for a more relaxed take on the structured silhouette. I'd pair a white longline blazer with a pair of striped high waisted shorts and a sleek white bandeau top for an unexpected, but tailored look. The light color palette and clean lines keep the look fresh. Finally, I'd finish the outfit off with a pair of white lace-up sandals.”

MEGAN PORTORREAL, EDITOR IN CHIEF - CLICHÉ MAGAZINE

“When I have to wear a suit in the summer, I always opt for the pencil skirt and matching blazer combo. This olive side zipper pencil skirt from Express makes more of a statement than a traditional pencil skirt, and a white polka-dot sleeveless blouse is super feminine and will keep you cool. Add a matching olive blazer, a block heel sandal, a delicate long necklace, and you’re set!”

VICTORIA DE LA CAMARA, STYLE EDITOR - RUE MAGAZINE

“I like to keep a suit look as simple as possible, with few accessories. It’s all about fit — what works for me is a light crepe jacket with a high-waisted skinny pant. For a situation that is a bit more casual and fashion forward, I’d pair the look with sandals like these from Loeffler Randall, and for a more formal affair, an elegant silver pump. Add in some delicate layered necklaces to help elongate the neckline like these from Natalie B Jewelry and you’ve got a classic outfit with a modern twist.”

ANI HOVHANNISYAN, EDITORIAL AND CELEBRITY STYLIST

"The summer is very hot so you want to wear a suit that's light — silk is my fabric of choice. I love pairing it with white or black strappy stilettoes for the night and strappy flats for the day. Minimal jewelry is best — overlay a few thin gold necklaces in different lengths around your neck. If you can, just wear a lace bra under the jacket and lose the shirt."
